Be sure to edit carefully, any mistakes and the exe might fail to start.

Ok, from what i understand ya might want to try creating a gamedata folder, and possible subfolders and place the trader file you have in the correct folder. ( for example gamedata/config/tradetrader.ltx ). I believe thats how ya can overwrite the default files.Though lost alpha might have a different trader config than the original game so not sure if that would work.
Would suggest seeing if you can get the file from the gamedata files somehow. I dunno how to extract the existing files from the gamedata files though. ( just searched, seems that the stalker mod tool might be able to extract the files )I believe fsgame.ltx tells the game which folders to search through for loading the file, and from what i see it should search for a gamedata folder.I'm not a modder though, just installed some mods on stalker and that all is just based on my noobish experience. Also hope it made some sense.

From what I understood, someone snactched the game up before testing was finished, something that the GSC team for this suggested to test first before release. No one will lay claim for the early release. So it is as is, you may need to go to the GSC Game World fourms regarding this game mod. I believe Dezowave still has a fourm dedacated to this game mod.since he was part of it. Oh no your right, even with the patch is still buggy, I reached a spot that I can't go anyfurther near the garbege. From what I understood, someone snactched the game up before testing was finished, something that the GSC team for this suggested to test first before release.

And be sure to make backups!!The issue is the new patch it installed and removed the old game folders I could acess, now even 7zip won't acess them.I tried placing the older version's game data in their place but the game will not accept that and crashes.
