Some Handycam camcorders allow users to save video straight to a mini DVD disc. While you can stream clips from a mini disc inside camcorder to a TV using a cable or even play the disc with some Sony DVD players, you cannot play video from the mini DVD disc on most computers without first downloading an installing a codec for the MTS format used for saving video files on the Handycam.
1.Open your Web browser and navigate to a website that offers a free codec pack for Windows. Codec packs are collections of files and drivers need for media player applications to play videos in various formats. By default, Windows only plays a few popular video formats. Installing a codec pack lets you increase the number of video file types Windows Media Player and other media player application can decode and display - including the MTS file format used by Sony Handycam camcorders. Codec packs such as CCCP, K-Lite Codec Pack and Xvix are free and allow you to play the MTS files from mini DVDs (links in Resources.).
